Getting Messy with Gesso and Stencils

Hello and good morning..

Today I'm up over on the Scrapbook Steals blog with a little tutorial...

So.... we are going to get messy! I recently discovered Gesso and have fallen in love with the textures and fun ways to play around with it. Today I’m going to share a couple of fun techniques.

 #1 Use Gesso as Paint
Get your supplies: paper, Gesso, foam brush and stencil

Lay your stencil on the paper, and apply a thin coat of Gesso and let it dry when done.
(I always work on a cardboard surface for my misting and paints so it doesn’t get all over)

Then add your painted paper as a base to a project for a cool textured look.

#2 Gesso and Misting
Get your supplies: paper, Gesso, foam brush, stencil and Mist

Then lay your stencil on the paper, and apply a thin coat of Gesso and let it dry when done.

When it’s done, stagger the stencil design and add a thin layer of misting.

Once it’s dry it can be used as a base for your project, it also gives a fun “wet” look to your project.

#3 Gesso and Paint
Get your supplies: paper, Gesso, foam brush, stencil and Mist

Plan a small amount of Gesso and add a few drops of mist to the mix till you get your desired color.

This is a fun way to make your Gesso match any project you are working on and add some color. Here is the result.

I LOVE how just that small hint of pink makes a difference.

Thanks so much for stopping by and don’t be afraid to get messy!
