Reese's Peanut Butter cake

ok so those of you who know me know that I LOVE peanut butter and chocolate.. it's like one of the BEST food combos ever!!! seriously, I love it..
Since my birthday was coming up, I started looking around on pinterest for a cake to make.and yes, from scratch.Of course I am totally drawn to anything with chocolate, and then add in some peanut butter, and then add in some Reese's and I'm totally there.
So I saw this cake on pinterest:
And thought... k I am going to attempt this.
So I started making the cake from scratch. I had my trusty Kitchen Aid mixed to help me out. Seriously, I have NO idea what I would do without that thing.
I poured the dough into two 8" cake pans and baked:
Then I made the icing for the cake, a peanut butter icing:
I iced the cake and then added some of the DARK Reese's peanut butter cups, cut in half so that they would stick better:
Next, here is where I went a bit on the crazy side... I took the chocolate glaze from this recipe that I made from Sydney's birthday cake. The only downside, is that you cook the glaze, and then it's warm to poor onto the cake, so it kinda landed funny.

Yes then you add cut up pieces of Reese's peanut butter cups on top... cuz apparently there was enough peanut butter and chocolate, and then you put the cake in the fridge so the chocolate glaze can set up.
Here is the final cake, after sitting in the fridge:
And here is what the inside looks like. The cake is actually NOT super rich, and kinda like a white cake with chocolate chip cake flavor... it was realllly good. The icing made it amazing.. and the day after, the cake tasted JUST as good!!!
And yes I high recommend serving it with vanilla bean ice cream!!! it is perfect.

I'm linking it up with the Pinterest Project Linky  Party #5
